ANM that idolises and follows the footsteps of Mother Teresa

Story of a dedicated ANM Ms. Mamidi Padmavati from Tagarampudi, Anakapalli mandal.

Ms. Mamidi Padmavati is an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) in Tagarampudi Primary Health Center of Anakapalli District. 57 year old Padmavati has been providing her kind service to the primary health center for the past 30 years. She has been one of the most dedicated personnel of the PHC that believes in the motto of service to humanity.

To list some of her day to day activities - she coordinates with the ASHA Workers and Anganwadi Teachers in the villages to identify the pregnant and lactating women. She conducts monthly check-ups for them, sending those with high risk pregnancies to the Medical Officer for their check-ups. She provides iron pills to prevent anemia and works on generating awareness regarding nutritious food, encouraging them to give birth in the hospital for the well-being of the mother and child. She keeps an open channel to communicate with the local panchayat members to closely follow up pregnant women to prevent home births.

Ms Padmavati has actively participated in all national health programs such as Prevention of TB and Leprosy. She has actively assisted in the prevention of chronic diseases such as malaria and dengue, conducting a survey in the village with the cooperation of the panchayat. In collaboration with ASHAs, she organises ‘Friday Dry Day Program' to take up measures to control mosquitos.

Ms. Mamidi Padmavati was a role model to every individual during the time of Covid. While people were confined to their homes in fear and faced all kinds of conditions, she was working on the field. She followed up on those who were infected with the virus, conducted regular tests and transported the needy to the district hospital. As a fan of mother Teresa, she choose nursing as her profession and considers human service to be a noble service.
