Nurturing the Future: The Story of the Seelamantula Veedhi Anganwadi Centre
Inspiring story of Seelamantula Veedhi Anganwadi Centre in Anakapalli District that stands as a Model AWC.
In the small village of Seelamantula Veedhi, located in Anakapalli district, there stands a beacon of hope for the community's children and mothers. The Seelamantula Veedhi Anganwadi Centre (AWC) is a part of the government's Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme and is a vital resource for the community. The entrance of the AWC is beautifully painted, welcoming all who enter.
Ms. K. Kasulamma, the dedicated teacher of the AWC, has been serving the community for 16 years. Along with her helper, Ms. K. Rama, they work tirelessly to provide the best possible care for the 15 children and 12 pregnant and lactating women enrolled in the centre.
One of the main objectives of the AWC is to provide supplementary nutrition to the children and pregnant women. Nutritious food is supplied to them every day, with a weekly timetable being followed to ensure that they are getting the necessary nutrients. Eggs and milk are included in the everyday timetable, and special nutritious foods such as ragi, jonna, dry dates and jaggery are provided to the pregnant women to ensure that they are getting enough nutrition. Awareness sessions on food intake are also conducted to educate the women on the importance of nutrition.
The AWC also provides pre-school and non-formal education to the children. Activities such as hygienic practices, moral stories, basic preschool subjects, and cultural and traditional celebrations are taught to the children, with the goal of activating their natural desire to learn. Playschool kits are provided to the AWC, including drawing books and alphabet books, and playing tools like clay, dolls and building blocks.
Regular height and weight checkups are conducted for the children and pregnant women to monitor their health. Iron syrups are given to the children twice a week, and a medical kit is provided for every AWC, including fever tablets, bandages and a first aid kit, to ensure that the children and pregnant women have access to the necessary healthcare.
The Seelamantula Veedhi Anganwadi Centre is a shining example of how a dedicated team of individuals can make a positive impact on the community. Under the leadership of Ms. K. Kasulamma and Ms. K. Rama, the AWC is providing vital services to the children and pregnant women of the community and helping to create a brighter future for all. "The true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members" This quote by Mahatma Gandhi exemplifies the importance of providing support and care for the most vulnerable members of society, the children and pregnant women, and how the Seelamantula Veedhi Anganwadi Centre is truly making a positive impact in the community.
