Story of Mr Gundumpalli Somaraju, a dedicated Clap Mitra from Devavaram Gram Panchayat of Nakkapalli Mandal, Anakapalli District.
Mr Gundumpalli Somaraju, a Clap Mitra (Health & Sanitation Worker) from Devavaram Gram Panchayat of Nakkapalli Mandal, has been leading the charge in keeping his village clean for the past 15 years. As a dedicated sanitation worker, he starts his day early every morning by going door-to-door, collecting wet and dry waste separately, and transporting it 3 kilometers away to a fertilizer manufacturing center.
"Cleanliness is not next to godliness. It is not even in the same neighborhood. Cleanliness is godliness." - Stephen King
Somaraju's dedication to his work goes beyond just garbage collection, he also ensures the cleanliness of roads and drains, and creates awareness among villagers about the importance of cleanliness and hygiene. He is also a proactive member of the community, always ensuring that the surrounding areas are clean before and after any event in the village. He even sprays mosquito repellent during the rainy season to ensure the village remains clean and sanitized.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Somaraju selflessly served his community by cleaning the home surroundings of those who were infected with the virus with bleaching powder, even when others were too afraid to leave their homes. His actions were recognized and appreciated by the people of Devavaram village, who honored him in recognition of his services. They often show their gratitude by giving him fruits and sometimes by helping him financially.
Somaraju truly embodies the spirit of service, turning sanitation into a way of life rather than just a livelihood. His dedication and selflessness serve as an inspiration for us all to rise above our fears and do our part to make a difference in our communities.
